I don't seem to get my apps back even though I'm using BBSAK 1.7 which has the Restore Apps button, unlike 1.5. I even lost BB Maps, Memo Pad and Tasks after wiping which is quite weird...

@sunkast - I backed them up using BBSAK, but when I tried restoring the backup.alx it said the computer didn't recognize the file. I also tried using the App Loader and the same result. I'm on Vista 32-bit...

You should be using app loader to restore the ALX.

When you get to this screen:

Click on the Add button, and select the ALX file.

@sunkast - I did that already before asking here, but when I chose the "backup.alx" file created by BBSAK, the PC refused to recognize it. Does it matter if the file happened to be created with an older version of BBSAK (1.5) ?

Have you looked to see if there is another backup folder.. When you use BBSAK to back up 3rd party it asks you to rename the back up folder

In that case, have you tried to roll it back with an older BBSAK (1.5)?

Thanks for the inputs jnepsa and breiti. I tried rolling back with 1.5 and the app said, "Restore COD successful!" but nothing happened, no screen flashes, nothing. Tried resetting afterwards but still nothing. And I separated the backup folders for my Bold and Storm (since I restored to the Bold first, I naturally renamed the Bold's backup folder to something else since I know BBSAK will read from the "backup" folder only). Now I don't really care about the third party apps since I can always redownload them, but I can't for the life of me figure out why I also lose BB Maps. This has never happened before so I guess I got ignorant this time.

    hmmm

maybe you missed the checkbox during the update process for bb maps, did you still have the OS on your PC? I would guess so. What does the desktop manager (or the app loader) tell you, when you connect and you go for update?

Is bb maps still in the list?

IF you are missing BBmaps you could also plug your phone into the PC open DM and run the update when it asks you just gont let it downgrade anything else.

Which OS do you mean? My older 4.7 or the current .402? When I try to update the App Loader shows only the apps currently installed on the device. I can install 3rd party apps one by one, I just got Ascendo Money and Quick Pull back on the device through BBSAK so I did skip restoring them right away, but the "Add-on" category of apps - BB Maps, Tasks and Memo Pad - is nowhere to be seen on the App Loader. Hmmm... I recall this also happened to me when I deleted the Storm's games months ago; loading newer OSes didn't bring them back.

Just wanted to step in and remind you that the apps you paid for can be re-downloaded for free (since you already paid) on most sites.

If you can't remember where you got each one from, just go to some of the sites you know you've purchased from (like MobiHand) and log in. Most of them will tell you what you've already downloaded from them and let you re-download. This also applies for BBappWorld.

I know I've had to do this once or twice when something happened to my .alx. If you forgot your password just have a new one emailed to you.

    Good luck!
