Camera is quicker to snap and seems better colour and detail capture. I dont normally use themes but I downloaded one to test and it works fine. Running .328 my memory would fluctuate between 31 and 37Mb, now its a steady 35.6 and that suits me fine =] Not so sure about the battery as I charge when I am in the car but it does sem to deplete AND recharge quicker. As I said though not 100%. Overall, nothing really new from .328 but it is quicker and more memory stable.
I would recommend 9500 owners to upgrade.

Hi, I am in the UK and am on O2 network.. I have an unlocked 9500 Storm which is branded Vodafone. I connect through a BES. Can I use this software upgrade without any problems

    Thanks

You should ask your BES admins first as installing this could be a violation of the IT policy and result in you getting fired.

I just switched from 5.0.0328 to the .402 works like a charm didnt notice a huge difference from the .328 except the cam being a bit faster and the picure access also faster
now the problem i found was the videos that i had on .avi .mp4 were playing just fine, when i put the .402 it just said error playing and on some of the avi i just get sound and no picture, .
the tested the Babylon A.D trailer and that works as a charm
    any insight will be helpfull
thanks in advance boys and girls :hail:
I think, it comes with the container format of the video, I face similar problems e.g. when the MPEG4 in the file is H264 encoded. I guess the only chance is a reconversion? :irked:

i got no probs whatsoever with my video files, no matter which format (compatible with the storm). My .mp4/.m4v vids all get encoded with H264.
I use Handbrake 0.9.4 for converting and it's working flawlessly - so far!

They dont seem to care.... as i said its a vodafone branded storm thats being used on O2 right now... The worry with installing any official vodafone software updates is that the phone may no longer function on O2.

    Is that a reasonable worry......?
Same with the release discussed here..... is this release a safer bet, bearing in mind the storm is officially only available on vodafone in the uk

i'm a bit apprehensive to try it, but i guess if i make a backup first it can be rolled back ?

    any help appreciated

    @JTC

I think you are spot on with your summation.
I personally feel that as long as you delete the vendor.xml, you should be able to run any version of OS that you like on your device as long as the platforms are compatible.

If you feel you have an issue you can always roll your device back.
Just as you mentioned, be sure to create a backup of your device before proceeding.

    Good Luck :fing02:

I have a vodafone storm 9500 running on 3uk. Everything works fine with it after upgrading the FW on it. Certain locks are removed from the phone after doing this: IE on 3 I upgraded my FW and it put links to planet3 onto my phone, and everything still works fine.

However, Im only using BIS not BES, im not quite sure what effect that would have though.

Is it possible to somehow use the language support from .362 and put it on this .402 OS?
I frequently type in English, Spanish and Swedish so I really need those input languages.
Otherwise I think this build is really good, surely better than .362
The biggest fix for me with this build was definitely the http links reappearing on my messages.

It's said that 371 is more compatible, try to copy all the

    "net_rim_xxxxx__language of choice.cod" and

all those relating to Docs 2 go and applications with

    "xxx__language of choice.cod"

into your JAVA folder and use the RIM-Loader for the update...

It at least worked with "language of choice = de"

But please don't forget to backup your system before and don't blame me if it does not work

You do not need to downgrade to .371. If it is installed on your PC, then just copy the relevant files from the JAVA folder inside the .371 OS to the JAVA folder of the .402 OS.
    The path is: c:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Shared\Loader Files\[OS folder]

If you're running on x64 OS on your PC, then instead of "Program Files" you will need to go to c:\Program Files (x86)\......

As sgavra already said (thanks for making it more clear!), no downgrading required, just replacing the files on the PC - and of course you could use bbsak to put them on the berry. In this case I preferred the RIM (App) loader due to its backup feature during the update.

    Any success already?

    Hi, hope someone can help.
I am having a serious memory leak and would like some expert information :-)
My memory starts of around 20 mb, and shortly thereafter it drops to around 7 or 8 mb

How does memory work on the storm 1... ?

Is it comparable to RAM memory in a Computer?
It seems as if many programs that are installed on the storm, automatically use memory, whether they are running or not.

I see people talking about having 40 or 50 mb free memory.
The most I have ever had free is around 33mb.

What programs use up this memory?
What programs or Files can be removed to recover Memory?

I have been told that certain files can be shrunk out, or removed.
I am interested to know which files I can delete off, and regain memory?

    Applications installed:-
    weather bug
    BBOS 2.5 theme
    FileScout
    BB Appworld
    QuickPull
    Talklock
    Ubertwitter
    Business Week
    RDM+
    Documents to Go

    Thanks in advance

YEs, it worked, now I have all three input languages, sweet. I must say though that DM apploader only recognized and loaded the _es (spanish) cod files so in order to load the _sv (swedish) cod files I used BMCP (Blackberry Master Control Program). Found it by googling cause bbsak didn't allow me to load all the cod files at once, the BMCP did. Nice app.
Anyway now I'm happy typing with spellcorrection. Thanx for the help!:laugh2:

I would guess so (= not really sure ) - my contract is Vodafon as well - but an indirect one (so another company is providing it as their brand = a hidden
vodafon account) - I lost the other company with one of the hybrids, but got it back twice: a) by doing a roll-back from the backup and b) a second time with this release installed via the RIM app loader... hm, sounds like I am experimenting toooooo much
