Thread: First OS changing! Help.

I have a blackberry 9530 from the USA but i live in poland. I have the simlock took off. I never upgraded it and i wonder if i do can i mess up something cuz im not using verizon anymore but another provider called Orange. Last time i tried to speed it up doing all this http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=...43/3sUVY6nPN58 and now i cant send text msg's. I can receive'em tak calls and call but cant send sms. I dont have internet either but i think its cuz Orange doesnt sell the blackberry 9530 in polad still (Telefony komórkowe Orange - abonament, mix, karta i internet - those are the only BB being soled in poland) So i wanna ask u if i can upgarde it safely and to what kinda OS ?

First a couple of questions.
Are you familiar with backing your device up so that you save all the data that is currently on the Blackberry?

Next question would be do you have a data plan that allows you to send and receive emails?

On my last phone i could send e-mails and i had internet, on the BB i dont even have internet when i go to browser it says: Your device does not currently have any browser configuration Service Book Entries. Please contact your service provider to enable the browser on your device.

That all you need feelin. That link will give you the step by step as to how to up grade your device.
As far as you browser, you will need to have your carrier send you the service books. That is why I was asking about the email plan. With your service books you get your email and you are supposed to get the data fro the browser. This is carrier dependent.

so i could safely upgrade my phone with no problems ? i heard that the fact that my blackberry is unlocked makes it harder, is that true ? And y cant i sent text msg's after speeding up my phone (look on the top for the link ) ? will upgrading my phone delete that problem ? And one more question: as i said before im using a difrent provider then the one that i bought it from. When i upgrade it can i mess up sth with the provider on my phone, like i want be able to find my provider and i'll be left with no "signal strength" i will have a "brick" to play and not be able to call ? (if thats even possible )
And could reeboting the phone by pulling out ur battery mess up u'r phone ? i mean if u do it several of times ?

no its not true i have 2 unlocked bolds and ive never had issues. i also have a locked storm and there is no difference in procedure.
and the battery pull will absolutly not hurt the phone. Actually alot of us here recommend doing it regularily. it tends to fix more issues than anything.

as for the txt issue im pretty sure the upgrade will solve it, not 100% positive tho.
Sometimes things just arent compatible.

but at first i could send them and then after the speed up they just dont send. The person i wanna send it to never gets it nd by the msg i have a red "x".

Does everyone have a problem with the storm that when its layed down like on a desk the accelerometer tends no to work. U have to pick up the phone ?

try resending your service books.
and the issue with the accelerometer is actually normal

That's exactly what I think is going on too Talira. After feelin did his first upgrade he may have never got his service books sent to his device again. No service books, no browser, texting, etc. etc....

but there was no upgrade it was just a couple stuff u can do to speed up u'r phone without upgrading (check the link above).

Explain to me what you did if you can.

1. Delete all apps that you are not going to use. go to OPTIONS_ADVANCED OPTIONS_APPLICATIONS_HIGHLIGHT APP_DELETE . Do this to all of your unwanted apps , for example the only apps i have are : 4.7 core / 4.7 soft / BBerry attachment/ BBM/ Bolt/ Browser / capture it/ phone / and quick pull. as of now i am sitting at 61 MB of memory hide all the other icons keeping a main 4 not 8 there is a big speed difference in the two.

2.If you dont now use GPS, go to OPTIONS_ADVANCED OPTIONS_ click GPS SERVICES _ CHANGE TO E911_ this will increase your battery life significantly.

3. Change your network to 1xev instead of global. This is increase battery life, over all proformance and gets rid of the faild sim message. Go to OPTIONS_ MOBILE NETWORK_ CLICK NETWORK TECHNOLOGY _ SELECT 1XEV. - Didnt do this one cuz i have to have GSM/UMTS cuz of the polish provider i think

4.This one is simple yet effective, by lowering you backlight lever by even 30 it saves alot of battery with out much notice. OPTIONS_ KEYBOARD/SCREEN _ BACKLIGHT _ SET IT TO 60. - I set it to "10"

5. This is disabling your even log , also seems to save battery and increase speed. turn your phone to landscape mode , MENU_ SHOW KEYBORED_ TYPE /"/"/ _ even log will then pop up _CLICK MENU CLEAR LOG _ THEN MENU _ PROPERTIES _ CLICK ON THE FIRST ITEM IN THE LIST _ MENU HIDE ALL TYPE.

The first one I would change back is changing your network back to Global. Do you use a SIM card? If so you will need the network set back to Global.

you tube sucks for tutorials. try resending the books anyway. if it doesnt work let me know and i'll walk you thru an upgrade to fix it up.
BTW pascal, good call on the global thing that could very well be the issue.

Changing it to global didnt help, still cant send text msg's. How do i resend the books ? And yes i use a sim-card.

I tell you what I would. It is very well possible that you may have deleted a necessary application that you needed to have the device properly text.

Load a new Operating System onto your PC then Download it to your Blackberry.
Follow the guide that you originally link to from our site.

How do u properly reboot u'r phone ? Do u first turn it off and take out the battery or do u take it out when the blackberry is normally on ?

You can take the battery out while it is on feelin.
That will be fine.

Reinstalling the os should help if not, i'd just warrantee it and try again. if it doesnt work, than its obviously a hardware issue.

but pascal dont you think a wipe may be in order?
