Thread: 5.0.0.328 Breaks VZAM Tethering

Didn't see this posted anywhere and honestly not sure who this might affect but it seems with the new operating system, RIM broke compatibility with Verizon's access manager used for tethering. While they do offer a workaround on the site to use Desktop Manager instead i do find it interesting that Verizon is ok with using someone else's software to tether...

I can't agree with that. I have always been able to tether through all OS's. Official or leaked.

how could vzw not know this was not compatible before 5.0 was released. some one didnt do there testing.

I have a feeling that it is a sporadic issue that they dont know how to fix. I doubt its completely broken.. as MePascal said he could still tether. I know others have been able to on .328, but there have been some cases of problems so I am betting its just a setting or something they havent figured out yet.

i cant tether with mine either... their 'dial up networking' work around works...and with Windows 7 (im on it so its all i can speak for) it already created the connection under dial up networking..

i admin a BES and so far all of our storms can no longer tether since going to .328 via the vz access manager method.

Is VZaccess a FREE or PAY service with the the personal BIS plan through VZW?

In order to tether with VZW's tethering plan the user needs to subscribe to said plan which is $29.99 a month for a 5 Gb limit.

Any other free options, or one time fee options like tether berry? I also read of tethering via bluetooth...easy and free...aynone?

I'm not familiar with BT tethering, but TetherBerry is probably a good alternative.

roll back your vzam version. used cd that came with 9530.

it is a conflict that arises when you have a 7.x version of vzam, and 5.0 handset software.


5.0.0.328 handset software and 6.9.0 vzam work fine together.

7.0.14.2 vzam has same issue.

roll back and enjoy the slack.

personal devices get email web 29.99 5GB package.

corporate users get 44.99 5GB package.

tethering is extra...

for personal devices, add 30.00 (29.99 + 30.00 = 59.99)

corporate users add 15.00 (44.99 + 15.00 = 59.99)

aircards are billed at 59.99 for 5GB data package.

if you use your phone like an aircard, you get your data package billed like an aircard.

I have been using this. Works perfectly, just set the file to read only so it does not go back like it was.
