Memory Leaks on .328 on S1

Anyone else noticing this? I've had .328 on my S1 for about a day and within an hour (or less) of a quickpull or batt pull I see 10+MB gone. I start around 25MB and drop pretty quickly to 15-10MB for no reason - NOTHING IS OPEN/LOADED. Any others seeing this? Any help would be appreciated.

Also, anyone else experieince this: The Show Keyboard option is gone from most menus now and on the ones where it does appear I open it and try to sequence for clearing the event log - guess what? Nada - nothing happens with the "/"/ sequence.

This is one of those times where you will need to provide us with a full list of apps installed on your phone. At that point, we can start troubleshooting.

Ok, I'll get that together but just as an FYI - my apps did not change since upgrading to .328 from BBCM Hybrid 8.5 on the 4.7 OS. All I did was run the update via DM. I am going to do a total wipe, OS load and app & data restore when I get a few free mins today or tomorrow. Since I did the DM upgrade I didn't get to shrink the OS.

More than likely its one of your apps. It was colorID for me. Every phone is different though, as we have all found out. Try deleting all non essential apps and watch your memory. Also make sure you are closing everything when done. I know it sounds novice, but I solved my memory leak, so start with the basics.

Like I said, other than upgrading the OS, not a single app has changed. Under BBCM Hv8.5 I held steady at 25-27MB all day long unless something major was open like Viigo for example. I always close my open apps when finished, so my assumption is it is an OS-related issue tied to .328.

    Smile

Viingo has been a leak source for me or it could be the particular theme you are running.

I had a few other issues (battery for one) so I switched to Lyrical's 5.0.0.238/287 hybrid http://www.blackberryos.com/forums/h...87-hybrid.html and now the issues are gone and memory is rock solid. Remember each device is different, so your experience could vary.

    ROCKS!

I have never tried a Lyrical Hybrid before, only BBCM, so maybe it is time I branch out and see how that works. If a complete wipe and repload of the stock OS still gives me issues I just might try the Hybrid. Thanks for the info and the link - much appreciated.

Here is a Meterberry screen shot from lastnight into today. When running the Precision Zen theme the memory doesn't move much at all. Where you see the 7.9 mb drop was when I gave one of my themes another try and memory started dropping. Deleted the theme went back to Precision Zen, rebooted and you can see memory sits stable.

When in doubt, pull the battery out!

I'm willing to bet it is the BBAmped Blue Today theme by Natemz - great theme but not developed for the 5.0 platform currently. I'll live with the memory leak for now until the theme is updated to the 5.0 platform - love the theme too much to go back to the default Precision Zen theme. I'm still going to do a wipe, shrink and reload just to be sure it's not something else.

Anyone have any idea when the Plazmic theme building software is going to be updated to support the 5.0 OS platform?

last battery pull was on monday night. not sure which program is causing this crazy memory leak, and unfortunately i use all the programs i have installed at the moment...just did a battery pull and rebooted with 25mb free. right now, i'd guess that google voice and sync are causing the leak since they are the 2 apps that weren't designed with the storm in mind.

3rd party apps installed: google maps, google voice, google sync, google talk, facebook, opera mini, aim, pattern lock lite. i'm always connected to googletalk. all other apps i close out.

other than this awful memory leak, i'm happy with .328 very much.

Themes are a major player in memory loss for sure. I would stay away from them if you are on 5.0. At least until a new 5.0 theme developer comes out.

I'm running the default theme and I still leak bad though. I have to reboot every day. I lose 20+MB a day on 328. But I would rather have the leak then to not have all my apps I like. It's a trade off. Is it really that bad if you have to reboot once a day? I don't think so. 5.0 makes up for it IMO.

I agree with you completely. Hopefully there is a Plazmic update to the 5.0 platform sooner than later. I like your theme so I live w/the memory drain and have QuickPull set to reboot daily (but had to turn off the memory monitor from it because it popped up constantly).

Didn't see it mentioned, but curious if you are using the work around to prevent the white bars from showing up in landscape mode. Reason I ask, I had very similar experience as you. I'd see huge drop in memory in hours after rebooting my phone, was very stable previous to the OS .328 upgrade.

On a whim, I stopped changing my layout to prevent the whitebars from shownig in landscape mode. My phone is not very stable with memory (at least compared to what it was). My phone has been running for 3.5 days, memory has been holding relatively steady at 20-25MB (a drop of 8MB from start-up). The 8MB drop has remained almost constant for the past 2 days.

Previously I would see my memory drop into the teens within a day and keep dropping, only change this reboot is I haven't applied the workaround for the whitebars - additionally I've set QuickLaunch to lock my phone tilt (did that a couple days ago, so maybe it's not so much the fix but landscape mode and use of third party themes.

Phones working solid, fast response time. No problems with calls. Might try this and see how that works for you.

Yeah, I tried the trick of changing the wallpaper and number of rows and then back but that only works until your next batt or quick pull (once a day for me - scheduled). If I go back to the Precision Zen theme memory hold solid at 24-25MB but if I stick w/Natemz's theme I drop 10-15MB over the day so I have Quickpull scheduled to do a reboot at 7am daily. The phone is still working well, so I'll live w/the leak until a fix comes along. If it gets really bad I could always go back to the defaul theme - if I really have to...
