Thread: SMS Icon wont turn off

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help, I upgraded my OS to 5.0.0.238 and for some reason I have an SMS icon that wont go away (tried BPs, and going through all the folders and marking prior opened). Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Did you check Sent Messages as well?

One of the message I got this morning I couldnt read or find for a while as it was sorted wrongly. When I did find it and open it in the messages folder the preview text wasnt contained inside. When i looked in the sms folder the message was hidden behind the top date bar (i could just about see something was highlighted behind), but i've replied to and deleted that message now so I cant work out whats wrong!

If you don't care about your messages, you could use the advanced backup/restore tool in DM to clear the messages database.

Unfortunately I do need some of the messages on there. Do you know if this has been an issue for anyone else when upgrading their OS? This is the first time i did it with a complete wipe first.

Are you running any custom themes? I have not had that issue but may be what you can do is go into your sms and open each message and tap on ones received. I think phone sometimes doesn't recognize it as read. Or go into messages, click BB key> and select mark prior opened from menu. I hope this helps.

I've deleted any messages i received since the icon appeared, and ive done the 'mark prior opened' in all the view folders. This is just annoying!

In .238 you need to scroll over the sms (actual message writing) to get it to clear. It acts very similar to bbm. Just keep opening people's sms threads until you see one with the yellow arrow to the left of the message. Once you scroll over that message, the yellow arrow and home screen indicator will clear.

Yes, that is a bug in .230 and .238. The only way to clear the star and bolded SMS's is to either do a battery pull or scroll through the messages the way BlackberryBlake has recommended.
I recommend you upgrading to .328 because this bug and a few more have been fixed in that release.

I had the same problem, or should i say still have. Open your sms and the latest thread twice. Basically the first time is because you're reading it. Once you back out to home, the icon still appears. Go into again, as if you were going to read it again, and back out to home and it will go away.

Battery pulls and wipes doesn't eliminate this bug that also exist in .314
