Thread: Official: OS 5.0.0.1000 for the 8530 findings & fixes

Bell Mobility has brought forth OS 5.0.0.1000 for the Curve2 today. We all know by now that this device is surely not getting OS6. So on that note, it's nice to see carriers still bumping up the numbers on the "about" screen for the OS5 devices. Head on over to Bell's Software Downloading page by clicking the jump below. Remember if Bell is not your carrier you want to delete the Vendor.xml file.

Gah! I updated my Telus 8530 to see if RIM had fixed the issue with photos (when looking at photos, they are appearing very blurry/digitized unless you choose "fit to screen", which makes you unable to flip to the next picture). Not only did this update NOT fix this, but now, I can't access the media options whatsoever! When I click on the BB symbol, I can select "options", but nothing happens. I personally liked the "exclude folders" option, amongst others, so I'm rather disappointed and frustrated. I have no idea how many other people like using their BB as a portable picture viewer, so I don't know how big a deal this is. Otherwise, I can't see any difference between this version and the current Telus version.

Oops, my bad. It's even worse than I thought. Now, if I open a photo, "fit to screen" isn't an option. If I zoom in, then "fit to screen" IS an option, but it brings you back to the blurry version. So, the only way to view the full picture, without it being blurry, is if you choose "view as slide show". Of course, since you can't access the media options, you can't change how frequently the slide show changes. Nice, huh?

Oh, and clicking on "Media Home" from the options doesn't return you to the Media Home section. If you get any response at all (50/50 for me so far), you get returned to your main menu - outside of media all together.

So, um... where's that section on how to roll back your OS again?

I have sympathy for you, I've dealt with Telus for years and was never a happy experience.

The only thing that I think you won't find in the tutorial is the answer to this question...Do you wish to continue loading this operating system....

You will get this question in a pop up just before your operating system actually loads. Your being asked this because your loading an older version of the operating system. You have 2 choices, leave system alone, or continue loading this operating system. Choose continue with the older version

It's funny: I'm only a frustrated Telus customer in that they don't have their own update for the OS yet. Well, that, and I'm frustrated (actually, infuriated) by the ridiculous changes RIM makes in these updates, and their complete lack of documentation. This is NOT the way to beat Apple. And let's face it, I WANT to back the Canadian company. I just wish they wouldn't make it so hard! :irked:

As far as service goes, I'm actually pretty happy with Telus. Well, as happy as any Canadian can be, when the U.S. cellular companies offer such better deals.

LOL...i deal with them in a business capacity....not fun. Also, Telus is the ugly sister I think where RIM is concerned. Telus doesn't like releasing new OS's all that often when they just offer the newer smartphone.
