I guess there are not a lot of 8520 users running around here unfortunately.

hi, I own a BB 8520 and i have just upgraded the OS to 5.0.0.592 from 4.6, but there are a lot of issues with this OS for e.g i am unable to rewind and forward videos, i am unable to use bluetooth for receiving data. can you please suggest a better version which can eliminate these issues.

Hello all, hope someone can help me? We got our daughter a blackberry curve 8520 for her birthday and the phone went nuts. It was eating batteries in about 10 mins and the phone was always hot. We returned the item to Amazon and got a full refund rather than an exchange. We then bought her the exact same model from carphone warehouse and it was perfect, she loves it and after we did the offer with apps from t-mobile she was over the moon. Yesterday her blackberry desktop software told her to update her phone, so she did but alas after doing the update she got a white screen with the dreaded 507 error! I have done some research into this and found that she has prob wiped her operating system. We tried to call blackberry for some assistance but failed at the first hurdle when they asked me to put in my card details as the information was chargeable, huh! I the proceeded to troll the internet for hours trying to find a fix to help her get her phone back to normal. I have found the most common answer is "you need to download your carriers os" what is this? How to find the blackberry curve 8520 t-mobile operating system??

I joined this forum in the hope that someone can help me resolve this issue asap as a teenage girl with no phone is becoming unbearable.

I was a little upset that t-mobile coudn't help me apart from giving me a number that requires credit card details just to talk to someone )

OK, you don't need to download a T-Mobile OS release to get the phone working. You can find an OS to download on the site but, one of the other moderators recommends AT&T_8520_5.0.0.1067 - Downloads - BlackBerry Forums from AT&T as a good OS.
Take a look at this thread, All In One Guide - How To Upgrade Your Device - with Pictures & Videos. It's a very good how-to, to get you comfortable with downloading the AT&T OS. Go through it a few times and ask any questions that pop up BEFORE starting the OS download. That way, you can get it down easily.
There's no harm in downloading and installing another carrier's OS as long as you delete the vendor file (explained in the how-to thread). It will not affect the warranty on the phone because it is an official RIM OS release.

Keep us posted, and I believe that sabisgeek has an 8520. I'll have him take a look at this thread so he can give advise as well.

Yeah I've got an 8520. The reason you got that error is because for some reason, the phone did not install the OS properly. The 507 error indicates that there is no OS whatsoever on the phone. Just follow the steps Ghostryder gave you and you should be fine. Let us know if you have any questions, and as Ghostryder said, make sure you ask before you try to install the OS, so that you can make sure of what you're doing.

That's great you're having such great success with .1067 OS. How long have you been running this OS?

I've been running it for 3 months. It's pretty good and right now I have just found a new theme with OS 7 icons which gives my Curve a fantastic appearance.

Yes, amazing what a simple theme change can do to a phone to bring out a fresh appeal.

OMG, I followed the instructions to the letter but alas, it don't work for me! Am I doing something wrong, hmm, don't think so?
I followed the instructions very carefully and it all seemed to go to plan until loading the software. Whilst it's uploading the software, I get a message saying

"A fatal error has occured while updating your devices software. Please try again"

Unspecified Error Encountred [J:0x00000024]

It seems to be happening right after installing sofware then something about reconnecting then bam, goodnight again!

I have tried again and again and again but i'm unsure wether to try again or not?

I'm starting to think it might of been a bad idea buying a blackberry phone! Please help me get my confidence back in this phone

Install the OS using another computer preferable a Windows XP computer.
Remember the order:
1. Backup data (3rd party apps if you like but in your case this isn't needed because the device is already wiped).
2. Wipe device using BBsak
3. install OS (5.0.0.1076) and remove vendor.xml
4. load OS onto device using loader.exe
5. Restore data (also not needed because backup hasn't been made)
6. Do a battery pull

Still not working

I did exactly what it says on the tin and it almost works then bammo, fatal error.

It works up to step 4 then after starting to load it goes straight to fatal error screen!!

I'll try again tomorrow but I think the phone isn't going to play, the funny thing is, the phone is only 3 weeks old!!!!

I just want it to work, and like I said, I am doing it as it is stated! I've watched the tutorials so many times, i know them off by heart

Can you go back to the original OS that came with the device? If it's only 3 weeks old and following the instructions here does not get you upgraded, it may be the phone has a manufacturers defect and needs to be replaced.
