Thread: Curve 8520 OS 5.0.0.610 Findings & Fixes

Hi Batdog! You have to follow the steps csussen recommends to you but don't try to install the OS from DM, you have to do it from AppLoader. It doesn't matter if you use Windows XP or Vista. Only keep in mind to install first the OS 5.0.0.1067 and erase the vendor file before trying to update your system. I hope to be helpfull!

Good point Obbayola, I forgot to ask batdog if he was trying to use DM or not. Thanks for bringing that forward.

Don't mention it Ghostryder12! It is suppose we are here to help each other and with our babies (I mean our phones) we are learning everyday and looking for tricks anytime.

Hi! Maybe there was an error during the OS was loaded, so I recommend you to do a Secure Wipe with Bbsack and load again your OS.

Hi! Maybe there was an error during the OS was downloaded or loaded, so I recommend you to do a Secure Wipe with Bbsack and load it again. If it gives the error again, try downloading the file once and do the process again. Remember to erase vendor file and do loader work with Apploader this time.

Don't forget to backup your apps, contacts, ect.

I can't revert back to the original OS has the blackberry software that ASKED to do an update, wiped it before installing the new one. I'm seriously unhappy with the way blackberry are dealing with this. It's not like I tried to put a dodgy bit of software on the phone and broke it by doing so, THIS WAS A BLACKBERRY UPDATE via the desktop manager that broke the phone. They have told me at the store where I bought the phone that it can be fixed but unfortunately they have to send it to Canada and that can take 6 to 8 weeks!!! That's rubbish.

I called the store this morning to tell them that everything I have tried to put it right has failed. They told me to bring the phone back and they will send it off to Blackberry. What do we do for 8 weeks with no phone, surely that can't be right? I also sent Blackberry an email telling them about the problem I have but alas, I have recieved no reply from them at this stage

I asked the store when I called if the phone may be faulty and could I please have a replacement, they denied me that right saying that there is no fault with the phone, it's the software that's faulty and that isn't covered by the money back garauntee. I told them that it was an official update by the blackberry software and that it wasn't our fault that this happened. He then told me to take it to Blackberry as it's there fault. OMG OMG, when does it end, when will someone understand that we didn't break it by trying to add third party software, IT WAS THE BLACKBERRY SOFTWARE THAT BROKE IT, but nobody will take responsabillity for it.

I guess the only thing to do is to bow to the corporate giants and send it away for 6 to 8 weeks but I have to say this is not the sort of treatment I would of expected from a company like Blackberry

It works up to step 4 then after starting to load it goes straight to fatal error screen!!

I'll try again tomorrow but I think the phone isn't going to play, the funny thing is, the phone is only 3 weeks old!!!!

I have had problems updating certain BB's using Vista or 7 where as XP works seamlessly...
This probably has to do with the way Vista and 7 handle USB communication. I will not go into further detail but please try to install it using a Windows XP computer.

I have always tried to do this process using Windows XP. I have never used Vista or Win7. Everything works up to the point it starts to copy the software to the phone. I have only ever tried to do it by using the apploader in common files and also I never forgot to delete the vendor file. I think the next thing to do is to delete all the programmes from the computer and start again!!

I noticed it happens when it starts to reconnect to the phone after the initialization stage ??

UPDATE!

Ok, I deleted everything from the pc and installed and did exactly what the instructions state, word for word!

1. I downloaded and installed bbsak

2. I installed the dektop manager software that came with the Phone

3. I installed the device software I got from the link within this forum

4. Restarted the computer

AT THIS POINT I HAVEN'T CONNECTED THE BB

5. Plugged in the BB and opened bbsak

6. I did the wipe thing, after doing it the phone rebooted and came back with "reload software 507" but this is normal according to the tutorial, all good so far

7. Closed down bbsak

8. I navigated to the app loader folder where upon I deleted the vendor file

9. I then double clicked the icon called Loader (it's got a phone as an icon)

ALL GOOD SO FAR

10. At this point I followed the on screen instructions as stated in the tutorial. After seeing the sofware was checked in the list, I clicked next

11. A box came up with different tasks that the loader was going to carry out, retrieving Device Configaration

12. Device app selection
Updating your device - DONE
Load JVM System software - Done
(at this point I get a quick message saying "reconnecting to JVM, then BAM, fatal error)
Wait for device initialization
read App config

As you can see it crashes right before "wait for device initialization" I have done this several times now but alas it keeps failing at the point I mentioned. Am I doing something wrong?

Please, please, please tell me if i'm missing something?

P.S May I say a big thankyou to all who have advised me on a solution to this, I just hope I can humour you all by getting it to work

OK batdog, with all that you have been through with this upgrade, I'm wondering if the OS you're trying to install is a bit buggy... Now, I'm in the same boat as you regarding what the heck is going on, so this is just an idea I'm tossing out there for you and others here to think about.
How about going back and deleting the OS from the computer and downloading a different "Official" OS release. You can make a choice from here. Then follow the detailed instructions and see what happens. I'm thinking that if you still have the same issue, it is NOT the software but its the hardware (phone) that is having issues. Then you can call the store and relate what has occurred and maybe then they will realize the phone is defective...what do you think

I'm willing to try anything right now to get this problem fixed!!

I'm sorry for asking but I have no idea what onr to download (OS) could I please ask for further guidance on the one I need to try?

Sure, I'd try this one, 8520_5.0.0.1036_Vodafone_DE - Downloads - BlackBerry Forums only because I think Vodafone is very reputable.
Also, AT&T has a newer OS, AT&T_8520_5.0.0.1067 , the sabisgeek is using and really likes.
Now, it is not the 5.0.0.610 so maybe sabisgeek can lend his knowledge since he has the same model BlackBerry as you. ( I use the Torch) We may have to wait till he gets out of class to get his opinion though. However, you can try the .1036 OS while we wait?

Yeah, I used the .1036 OS for about 4 months before upgrading to .1067.

I don't think the problem is the OS. It could be the phone, but just try using a different OS, that might work. It might also have to do with an IT policy. Try doing a Factory Reset, and tell us how that goes.

hi guys please help since i updated my blackberry curve from os 4.6 to 5 the phone started showing me a white screen suddenly at first i thought that the problem was from the screen but no then i thought it was from the battery and also that wasn't the problem cause when i downgraded my phone to os 4.6 it worked normally and it taked 2 hours in charging while at the os 5 it takes only 45 minutes of charging what is the problem and how can i prevent that white clear screen from appearing suddenly plus i don't want to use the 4.6 anymore
