OK, followed your link to the dictionary. Very nice.

I suppose you wanted me to look at the definition for ota, correct?

Too bad it does not give the information you have just provided about using m.blackberryos.com, etc.

So, I am not sure of the value of the dictionary in answering my question, but you have, so thank you.

That dictionary is for general knowledge. I shared the m.blackberryos.com for that is our mobile site and it will show this thread in the site, and you can hit the OTA link I shared earlier.

    Got it.

Maybe somebody with the right clearance could add to the ota definition the information about the mobile site, and that the ota links provided on this site were not meant to be followed while on this site. That is unless you just ignore the .jar/.jad file and use the url at the top of the browser to get there with your bb's browser. Just my $0.02.

I forget what site the theme I d'loaded was on, maybe crackberry. None the less, when you clicked their ota it gave you the url to use in your bb's browser to go to the theme's site and download it. No .jar/.jad file offered to make something simple into something confusing, at least for us noobs, and I expect a few not so noobs.

    Thanks again, Chris.

I know this post is over two weeks old, but in reading it I don't think wolf understood what Stiefler was trying to show him. An OTA link is meant to be clicked on using the browser on your phone. If you click on an OTA link from a PC no matter what site that link is on, you will get a file download window for a .jad/.jar file.

The point about using the m.blackberryos.com site was so that you could go there, browse to this thread (or whatever thread the OTA link you wanted was in) and just click the OTA link from there.

Another option is to right click an OTA link, click "copy shortcut", go to your e-mail program, create an e-mail to yourself that you can open on your phone, paste that shortcut in the e-mail, e-mail it to yourself, open the e-mail from your phone, then click on the link.

Hope that clears it up for you.

Thanks for the email tip on OTA. I would not have thought of that! :duh:

Actually I did understand exactly what he was telling me to do.

If you go to pimp my blackberry, or maybe it was crackberry, and want to dl a theme, when you click on the ota link for your device/OS it gives you an url to use in your phone's browser, not a file.

Basically, I was saying that their way left no confusion about what to do and I was just wondering why this site could not do the same thing. Seems much less confusing, to me anyway. I guess that after my first experiences with ota for several themes that gave the url, I was surprised and confused about what was going on when clicking on the ota link on this site, that's all.

I am sure that using mBlackberryOS.com and then navigating through the threads again would work as described, if you knew about mBlackberryOS.com. It is probably in some "Hay noobs read this first" posting I just did not get to, yet. And I am also sure the copy link, place in email, email it to yourself and then clicking the link would work also.

Clicking on an ota link and getting an url, enter that in your phone's browser and follow it to your download just seems easier, smoother, almost no confusion even for a complete noob is all I am trying to say. mfg: Just my $0.02 is all. I think it is time, for me at least, to put this discussion to bed.

    Thanks, Chris. :hail:

My sis wants to get the new BBM on her sprint 8330. She's running OS 4.5.0.131, is that a high enough build, if not which OS does she need to get? TIA
