I am trying to update a friend of mine to 4.5.0.160 from .89. He wanted to go to the new BBM 5.0 and the BBM 5 would not load, so we tried to update his OS.
I downloaded the 160 from BB and deleted the vendor.xml file. I ran apploader and I get a fatal error everytime I try to update. I alsio tried to do the update via Desktop Manager, and it also gives a "fatal error".
What am I doing wrong?

have not tried to backup yet. do I need to?

Tried a backup, it failed. "Error. Could not communicate with the device." Now I am not using the cable sent with the unit. He left it at his house and I am using a cable that I had for my Sony PSP.
Changed cables. backup failed still.
2nd attempt got the backup to complete. Trying OS now.

New 8330. Wiped using JL commander (as I did before) and now the phone will not connect at all. Pulled the batt once, rebooted and still no connection. The phone connected fine before.
Any ideas?
Ok, update to issue. Went to a new computer. The computer can find the device and I opened Apploader (as before) and apploader finds the curve, but does not find the OS to install.
What now?
DM says there is no OS update? A few times when I have bricked my device, I had to do a little trick. For whatever reason DM just wouldn't connect, but if I started the process without the battery in the phone it worked just fine. Then I put the battery back in before it had the device initialize.Quote:

If I can get it to load I prob will go to the Hybrid...but until then I am kinda stuck...lol
When I run Apploader (not via DM) it "reads the device config" and then goes to Device Application selection. Nothing is in there. It says does not have device software for the device.
Have you deleted all other os's from the computer but the one you want to install?Quote:

Oh, sorry Jnepsa, the quote you used before about BBM 5.0 was another phone. Same issue, kinda, but different unit. That one is fixed and running.
The new issue is the phone wont see the new OS. Removing all the other OS's now. (I had 3 for the storm on there as well).
I will just get rid of them all and re-install the 8330
