As I stated in the news blog, the 8350i is being reported to receive the 5.0.0.577 and that it is only available through Desktop Manager at this time.
Do you think that with this recent information that 6.0 is just around the corner?
Have you received this OS? What are your thoughts on 6.0 with this current intelligence?
This update was taken down within 75min of it being up due to having issues bricking the 8350i. I work for TELUS and my dealer along with another one within my region is the only one doing a pilot project and have the software available to us through back end RIM services. :cool:
Jist of it is, that we upgrade clients phones as normal and if it bricks the phone we have to send log files to RIM, they are also providing us with swap units on hand just in case.
I have successfully upgraded 2 8350i's with the new software and it is a big improvement.

Having used the 8350i for quite some time I would say there are no immediate plans for an OS6. There are too many issues associated with the PTT and it not working at times. Also there is an issue with the address book disappearing that has not really been addressed by Telus.
Problem with that is RIM hasn't released/produced anything reliable for this phone. Even the 4.7 update bricked phones but was over looked for the sheer fact that it enabled users to text. They didn't mention random reboots, poor bluetooth quality that came with the update to mention a few.
I cringe every time a start an update process on one of these 8350i's. I have never not been able to unbrick a blackberry in my life other than 8350i model.
Its the ptt that's interfering with everything. First, it takes a tremendous amount of memory when your actually using the feature. It also fights with any app on the phone...try loading weather bug. Secondly, its the ptt protocol that makes loading a hybrid such a pain. Unless the protocol is matched with the os, your getting nothing but problems. Even when it cokes to upgrading with official releases. The ptt was installed with 4.7 and therefore, it keeps looking for it. If you look at the modules, ptt is not upgraded with new releases of the os.

I just finished my weekly conference call with RIM about the pilot. Seems like good progress, we are seeing less bricked 8350i's now.
One thing that they did mention with 8350i is some of the problems people are having has to do with the USB power management. I think the 8350i requires quite a bit more than the other CDMA or GSM models. Doesn't surprise me at all.
It was a short meeting but they did say that they will review the results at the end of this and they will make a decision if they feel comfortable with releasing the update to the public yet. Unfortunately as much as I like to upload my copy of it for you guys, I can't do that because of legal issues and big brother will make me pay dearly if I did :no:
But you might see the release sooner than we might have thought, you guys just have to be patient.
Its available through Desktop Manager 6.0 now :D
