Thread: OS 5.0.0.438 Findings & Fixes

Thursday brought Blackberry Curve 8330 users some news that Boost Mobile was sending out a 5.0 OS through the Desktop Manager. It was known at the time when we would see the release on the BlackBerry site.
Boost Mobile released 5.0.0.438 for the BlackBerry Curve 8330. It is now available from the BlackBerry downloads site.
With 5.0 starting to be the status quo for the release of the newer devices, we have all started to see the trend with carriers picking up the 5.0 builds.
We got to see the screen shot for this OS yesterday so it looks as if Curve users will get to try out an official.

Curve users drop us some notes and let us know what you think.

Does anyone knows if it gives the looks like the newer devices ??

Does this work on Sprint? (ie. does Sprint's service books support a 5.x OS) My sister has this and I'm sure she'd like if I upgraded her.

I cant promise anything, but boost mobile I think is sprint right? also make sure she doesnt have an 8330m if she does this will not work

probably a stupid question, but will this work on the 8350i? Or is it a completely different because of the hardware?

Completely different, sorry. An OS can only be installed on the specific model it was created for. IE: 8330, 8350, 9550.

so this won't work for a verizon 8330?

This will work with any 8330, but not an 8330m.

ok thanx but it is an 8330 and it didn't work..i tried it twice..and it just keeps loading an updated version of 4.5....any ideas..

You have to delete the vendor file In the loader folder if your not on boost.

i thought about the vendor file..but didn't cuz i thought it was official but now it makes sense...thanx

When trying to install this update on my 8330, I get to the normal Loader window asking to check which applications to install/updgrade and then I keep getting the same error message. The box for Email Setup Application is checked and grayed out. When I click next to start loading the OS/applications, the AppLoader presents an error message saying that:

"The application 'Email Setup Application' cannot be loaded because required components are missing."

I do not know why this error message keeps occurring. I have reinstalled the OS on my computer multiple times. All of the necessary steps for loading unofficial OSes have been taken (i.e. deleting Vendor.xml). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have any other OS's installed?

No, that is the only OS currently installed on my computer.

Are you using DM or App Loader?

Alright do this for me if you will. Open DM. At the top righ, click on Help, choose About. Once that dialog opens, you'll see it has three tabs. Change to the last tab, Device Software. What specifically is listed in this tab?

Also on your phone go to Options > About, and what does the first line and third line say?
